How do I know when my filter needs changing?
FilterLogic Spa filters are intended to be season long filters when used in accordance with best practises. You should always operate two sets of filters with one set of filters "in service" in the hot tub and one set of filters on standby. Filters should be rotated every two to four weeks depending on the use of the hot tub. The set removed should be thoroughly cleaned/soaked in a proprietary spa cleaner (such as Brenntag Filter White) and then fully dried out prior to reinstallation. The drying process enables the fibres in the material to recover properly and will ensure the filter performs effectively for its quoted lifespan.
Can I use my filter after it's expired?
No. Filters don't expire but over time there are three key risks to using a filter beyond its quoted life. Firstly it is unavoidable that over time spa filters will trap sediment which despite cleaning and washing will eventually cause some of the small holes to 'blind'. This will make the flow of water through the material more difficult which in turn potentially places more strain on the pump (i.e. it has to suck harder). This decreases energy efficiency and in extreme cases can inhibit flow to the point it may potentially damage the pump. The second possibility is that the filter may develop small tears and nicks in the material which allow sediment to pass through the cartridge - This has the opposite effect, the filter is designed to protect the pump/heaters and such from this and if debris makes it into the pipework and becomes trapped it can potentially lead to blockages and/or areas where bacterial slimes and residues may develop. Finally, we've seen some pretty old spa filters here bought in by customers - Filters which started off white but are now various shades of green or brown having been used for several years or poorly maintained - These unquestionably present a biological risk although it is usually indicative of poor water chemistry maintenance coupled with poor cartridge maintenance.
What filtration level are these filters?
The FilterLogic™ spa filter ensures filtration down to 20 microns, enabling dirt and debris to be trapped that could otherwise cause damage to the spa’s integral pump and heating system. Precipiated calcium, body oils, lotions, hair, leaves and walked-in dirt are also captured and removed by the filter. Depending on the use of the hot tub, it's position in the garden and such the amount of debris trapped by the filter could change considerably from one hot tub to another, however, as a general guide a spa being used three times a week should have filters rotated every two to four weeks.
